What the Final Touch isA going away invitation for the friend with the one-way seat: the lease is up, the boxes are taped, and the table is held for the night before the flight. She arrives with the carry-on because she goes straight from here. Someone brings back the spare key. The plants get assigned to whoever has the best window, and the good pan goes to whoever cooks.

What to actually tell people
- Name tags on the luggage tag Write each guest's name on a cream luggage tag at the door and collect them at the end of the night. They weigh nothing and they fit in the carry-on.
- Toasts before the second round Three speakers, two minutes each, early in the evening. It only gets harder as the night goes on, and the airport car is booked for the morning.
- A table for what cannot be shipped The plants, the stand mixer, the half bottle of good olive oil. Put masking tape and a pen beside them so people claim things by name instead of debating it later.
- Get the details down in writing New address, new number, and the time difference, read aloud once and posted in the group chat before anyone leaves. Agree on a date for the first call while everyone is still in the room.
