Watch party invitation

Game Day

The crockpot is on by eleven, and nobody changes seats after the first touchdown.

Watch party invitation: Crimson felt card with a cream border. Football patch on a gold chain, pennant, star, goalpost and popcorn. Cream GAME DAY above a black ticket tag with date and time, venue below.

Part of the TinselLux™ collection: invitations in stitched leather, tufted velvet, linen and satin.

The material is the card: linen with a visible weave, velvet with a nap, leather with its grain. It costs the same as every other invitation.

This is the watch party invitation for the house everyone ends up at, because it has the one television worth driving to. People arrive well before one, which is the point: the folding table is already loaded, the crockpot has been on since mid morning, and the pregame show is running with the sound low while the room fills up. Somebody brings a cooler nobody asked for. Somebody else brings a dip in a dish they will want back.

Kickoff resets the room. Conversation drops, the sofa fills in the order people claimed it, and the two guests who care most end up standing behind everyone else. The afternoon turns on one drive in the fourth quarter, when the snacks are picked over, the popcorn bowl has gone to crumbs, and the whole room is watching a field goal attempt from thirty eight yards. It goes through or it does not. The second half of the plan is the same either way.

Kickoff at one. Snacks now.

Every line of the wording is an example, and yours to replace. The title is painted into the artwork. Type your own and it is drawn again with your words.

What to actually tell people

  • Put the food out before noon The invitation promises snacks ahead of kickoff, so have them out when the first guest arrives. Anything that needs the oven at one o'clock will be eaten cold.
  • Settle the seating early Count the seats with a clear line to the screen and accept that people will not move once the game starts. A second row of dining chairs behind the sofa works better than asking anyone to shift.
  • Decide who holds the remote One person controls volume and nobody else touches it. Have the backup stream loaded on a laptop in case the broadcast drops in the second quarter.
  • Plan for overtime A one o'clock kick can run past four thirty. Keep a second round of food in reserve and tell guests parking on the street how long they are really committing to.
