What to actually tell people
- Set the spoiler hour before the first pour The member who actually finished gets the floor first, and after that the ending is public property. Announce it early, so nobody gives away the last chapter while the corkscrew is still going.
- Open with a question that needs no page number Ask what everyone would have done in her position, not what happened in chapter nine. It keeps the four people who stalled at page forty in the conversation.
- Coasters near every copy Half the paperbacks in the room are library holds with due dates on the slip. Put a stack of coasters on the table and keep the red at the far end from them.
- Choose the next book while everyone is still seated Three nominations, one vote, and the page count read aloud before the vote rather than after. Decisions made at the door get reopened in the group chat by morning.
