Final Touch

This design has the Final Touch: the wording is stamped, stitched or foiled to match the artwork, so the card reads as one finished piece.

Start from it and your wording is painted in the same way, exactly as you type it.

What the Final Touch is

A mom's night out invitation like this one runs the evening as a premiere, and the guests commit from the car park in. Lipstick gets reapplied before anyone goes through the door. There is a list, there is a band snapped onto each wrist, and from that point the night has an admissions policy. Six names, no additions, no negotiating at the door.

The photographs happen in the first twenty minutes, against the darkest wall in the room, while everyone is still arranged. Then the wine lands and the phones go face down on the table. The talk clears the kids by the second glass and does not go back. By the end somebody is holding her wrist up to the light, and nobody is cutting hers off.

What to actually tell people

  • Hand the bands out at the door Buy a pack of iridescent wristbands and snap one on each guest as she arrives, yourself. A band nobody put on herself is a band nobody takes off.
  • Light one wall and shoot everything there Pick the darkest wall in the room, move a lamp out of frame, and take the arrivals photos in the first twenty minutes. After the second glass the group will not stand in a line again.
  • Choose a red that survives the first glass Blot once, set it, and keep a spare tube in the clutch. The lipstick is doing most of the dressing up, and the rim of a wine glass is its only real opponent.
  • Print the end time, do not discuss it The group chat will relitigate the finish for four days and still get it wrong. Put the hour on the invitation, tell the sitters that hour, and let the drive home be settled before anyone arrives.
