Dinner party invitation

Girls' Dinner

Six chairs, one reservation, and the news is delivered in order of urgency.

Red leather card with a rolled top handle on gold rings, a buckled strap across the middle and a faint repeating AJ monogram. Cream and gold capitals read GIRLS' DINNER, with the date and venue below.

Part of the TinselLux™ collection: invitations in stitched leather, tufted velvet, linen and satin.

The material is the card: linen with a visible weave, velvet with a nap, leather with its grain. It costs the same as every other invitation.

A dinner party invitation for six people who have been trying to land on a shared date since the last one. Everyone arrives dressed. Bags go on the backs of the chairs or on the little stool the restaurant keeps for them. The wine is ordered before anyone has opened a menu, because the order of business is known: one round of headlines first, food second. Starters are shared down the middle of the table whether or not that was the plan.

The second bottle is where it turns. Phones go face down, the person who has been holding something back finally releases it, and the table across the room gives up listening. Dessert arrives with more spoons than people. The bill is split without a calculator, the coats take ten minutes to find, and the six of them stand on the pavement outside continuing a conversation that was supposedly finished at the table.

Bring gossip. We have wine.

Every line of the wording is an example, and yours to replace. The title is painted into the artwork. Type your own and it is drawn again with your words.

What to actually tell people

  • Book it under one name Six is the size restaurants are strictest about. Call rather than tap, confirm on the day, and tell everyone which name the table is under so the first to arrive can claim it.
  • Ask for a round table At a long six-top the conversation splits into two dinners and the ends never hear each other. A round table, or a corner booth, keeps all six in one conversation.
  • Declare the split when you sit Tell the server at the start whether it is one bill divided evenly or separate cards. It takes fifteen seconds then and twenty minutes at the end.
  • Put an embargo on the news Ask the group chat to hold anything substantial until everyone is seated. Delivered live to all six, it is an event. Delivered at four in the afternoon in text, it is a summary.
