See the collectionThis birthday invitation imagines a thirtieth where the dress code runs two words long and everyone takes it literally. Guests arrive in black denim they have been working on all week: hot-fixed stones along a yoke, pyramid studs down a seam, a pin borrowed from a mother or a grandmother and set at the collar. The room is dark on purpose. One lamp is aimed across it so the facets have something to do.
It turns when the first stone comes loose. Somebody finds it on the floor by the bar, holds it up, and the tweezers and the glue come out next to the drinks. After that the repairs are part of the evening. By the end the birthday jacket has collected a pin from nearly everyone in the room, and it weighs noticeably more than it did at eight.

What to actually tell people
- Set out a stone table A hot-fix applicator, a tray of loose crystals and one spare black jacket covers anyone who turns up plain. Give it a corner with an outlet and it runs itself.
- Light it from the side Overhead light flattens faceted stones. Put a warm lamp low and angled across the room, and the seams and the brooches read from across it.
- Plan for shedding Stones come off denim all night. Keep tweezers and a tube of gem glue near the bar, and sweep the floor once before anyone takes their shoes off.
- Ask for one pin each Tell guests to bring a brooch, a pin or a single patch. Everything gets added to the birthday jacket at the door, and it goes home heavier than it arrived.
