Anniversary invitation

30th Anniversary

The pearls go on at the hallway mirror, thirty years after they were a gift.

Pearl-white satin card with raised ivory embroidery reading 30TH ANNIVERSARY at the top, fine scrollwork down both sides and a strand of graduated pearls swagged across the lower edge, names and details below.

Part of the TinselLux™ collection: invitations in stitched leather, tufted velvet, linen and satin.

The material is the card: linen with a visible weave, velvet with a nap, leather with its grain. It costs the same as every other invitation.

An anniversary invitation for a pearl anniversary: one long table, the good glasses down from the top shelf, and dinner that starts late because people keep standing up to talk to each other. The napkins have been ironed. Someone wears the strand that was a gift the first time round, and it is remarked on within four minutes of the door.

After the plates go, the tables get pushed back. There are three toasts, one of them read off a phone, and an album from the first reception travels down the table and does not come back. Then the song from the first dance plays, and the floor belongs to the two of them for roughly thirty seconds before the grandchildren are on it.

Every line of the wording is an example, and yours to replace. The title is painted into the artwork. Type your own and it is drawn again with your words.

What to actually tell people

  • Give the dress code in one line Ivory, pearl, or anything that holds up under warm light. Guests will ask either way, and one printed line answers it before the group chat gets involved.
  • Fix the toast order before the first course Three speakers, before dessert, two minutes each. Someone will run long, and it is better if that person goes last.
  • Find the song in advance Cue the first-dance song and test it on the actual speaker. Nobody should be scrolling for it while the floor stands waiting.
  • Put the album out early Photographs from the first reception on a side table by the door give arriving guests somewhere to stand. Accept that you will not see it again until the lights come up.
