M & A
Place cards sit in brass holders and the dancing starts when the tables are cleared.
This wedding invitation imagines an evening in a dark, quiet room: emerald velvet on the walls and chairs, brass fixtures turned low, candles on long tables. Guests come in from the cold, hand over coats, and find their names set out in a row. The ceremony is short. Dinner is served sitting down, course by course, and the room stays warm and close while it happens.
Afterward the toasts are given standing at the table, glass in hand, without a microphone passed around a crowd. The plates go, the tables are pushed back, and the band starts. Someone props open a door for air. The last hour is a dark room, brass light, and people dancing in the clothes they were nervous about that morning.

What to actually tell people
- Name the dress code on the card A room like this reads as black tie or formal, and guests will ask if you do not say. Put the two words on the invitation so nobody arrives in the wrong thing.
- Plan the light before the day Candlelight and low lamps look right in person but give a photographer very little to work with. Walk the room at the hour of your dinner, and ask the venue what they allow for open flame.
- Seat people, then share the chart A seated dinner needs place cards and a chart the caterer and the band can both read. Give them the final version two days ahead, with the correct spelling of every name that gets announced.
- Give the band a running order Decide when the plates clear, when the first dance happens, and who speaks before it. Write the order on one page, hand it to the band and to one person who is not you.
