Brunch invitation

Naps Welcome

The door hanger goes on the guest room, and somebody actually uses it.

Brunch invitation: Heather gray knit card with a navy ribbed cuff along the top edge and a butter yellow door hanger printed NAPS WELCOME. Navy slab lettering reads MOTHERS & BABIES, with the date and venue below.

Part of the TinselLux™ collection: invitations in stitched leather, tufted velvet, linen and satin.

The material is the card: linen with a visible weave, velvet with a nap, leather with its grain. It costs the same as every other invitation.

A brunch invitation for mothers and babies sets an expectation up front: the morning nap has already happened, the afternoon one is coming, and the window in between belongs to everyone. Strollers get parked at the door. Car seats go along the wall. A quilt comes out in the living room and stays there, and the babies are handed around until they land on whoever is not currently holding a plate.

The food is cut small and eaten standing. Conversation starts over, twice, and nobody minds. At some point one guest disappears down the hall with a baby who has run out of patience, closes the door, and comes back forty minutes later to a saved plate and a warm cup. The rest of the table keeps going.

What to actually tell people

  • Give one room over Clear the guest room before anyone arrives: curtains drawn, bed made, white noise running. The first person who needs it should not have to ask where to go.
  • Food for one hand Frittata squares, scones, cut fruit, anything that survives being set down mid-sentence. Nothing that needs a knife, and nothing that needs to be eaten hot.
  • Clear the entry first Four strollers take more floor than you think. Prop the door, move the shoe rack, and leave a stretch of wall for car seats and diaper bags.
  • End it when you said you would A stated finish protects the afternoon nap, and everyone in the room is counting on that nap. Start handing back coats on time, even if the conversation is good.
