The material is the card: linen with a visible weave, velvet with a nap, leather with its grain. It costs the same as every other invitation.

A just because invitation for a night built around one instruction: bring the denim jacket you already own. The table gets cleared, the glue guns get plugged in, and a sorter tray of rhinestones, pearls and clear stones goes in the middle where everyone can reach it. Patches are laid out and moved around for twenty minutes before anyone commits. Someone threads a needle in cherry red and does it properly, by hand, while everyone else reaches for the glue.

The turn comes when the first jacket goes on. It gets held up, turned around, and judged by the back, which is the only part anyone cares about. After that the collars and cuffs start getting stones, the pile of loose rhinestones on the table stops being sorted, and two people quietly start a second jacket.

What to actually tell people

Thread the needles before anyone arrives A dozen needles, pre-threaded in cherry red and cream, in a pincushion by the lamp. Nobody wants to thread a needle at a kitchen table with the overhead light behind them.
One shallow dish per person Rhinestones poured straight onto denim roll off and end up in the rug. Give everyone a saucer or a muffin tin so the reds and the pearls stay separate until they are picked.
Count your outlets Glue guns draw more than people expect and three on one power strip is the limit. Set them on a foil-lined baking tray so the tips have somewhere to rest between stones.
Keep two spare jackets on the rack Someone will arrive with a jacket they are not willing to cut into, and someone else will forget entirely. A couple of thrifted ones by the door solves both.
