Wedding invitation

Vivian & Marcus

A black-tie evening wedding: cocktails at seven, dancing after dinner.

Wedding invitation: Matte black card with a silver Art Deco border and fan corners, an oxblood marble oval engraved VM at the top, and large chrome letters reading VIVIAN & MARCUS, with the date and venue below.

Part of the TinselLux™ collection: invitations in stitched leather, tufted velvet, linen and satin.

The material is the card: linen with a visible weave, velvet with a nap, leather with its grain. It costs the same as every other invitation.

A wedding invitation in black and chrome tells guests the hour before they read a single line: this one starts in the evening and keeps going. People arrive in dinner jackets and long dresses, coats go to a rail, and the first coupe is in hand at seven. The room is dark and polished, lit low, with silver catching along the edges of things. The couple's initials turn up again on the menu card and the bar sign.

Dinner is seated and the toasts come between courses. After the plates go, the tables are cleared back and the floor opens for the first dance, and the music runs late enough that the last hour is the one people talk about. There is no afternoon light to work with and no lawn to cross. It is a wedding built for after dark, and the whole evening happens in one glamorous room.

What to actually tell people

  • Put black tie on the invitation An evening wedding in a dark room only works if the clothes match the hour. Say black tie plainly in the wording, and say it again in the reply you send when someone RSVPs, so nobody is guessing the week before.
  • Plan the light, not just the look A black and silver room photographs beautifully and goes very dark very fast. Walk the venue at the actual start time, add candles on every table and a lamp near the cake and the gift table, and tell your photographer where the faces will be.
  • Write the cocktail list before the caterer asks Cocktails at seven means two named drinks, served in coupes, and one of them without alcohol in the same glass. Print the list by the bar so the line moves, and have the bartender start pouring ten minutes before the hour.
  • Carry the monogram through the room The two initials on the marble plaque are the only decoration this design needs, so repeat them where they cost nothing: the menu card, the bar sign, the napkin, the last page of the program. Keep the palette to black, silver and one deep red.
