Baby shower invitation

Berry Sweet

Berries are hulled at the kitchen sink all morning, and shortcake is served at noon.

Baby shower invitation: Cream eyelet card with red gingham border and pearl corners. Embroidered strawberries with a gold chain and ruby charms sit above green script reading Berry Sweet, then a gingham date tag.

Part of the TinselLux™ collection: invitations in stitched leather, tufted velvet, linen and satin.

The material is the card: linen with a visible weave, velvet with a nap, leather with its grain. It costs the same as every other invitation.

This baby shower invitation imagines a strawberry shower at the house, set for midday, with red gingham on the table and white eyelet cloths under the plates. Berries get hulled at the sink while people arrive. The biscuits come out of the oven warm, the cream is whipped cold, and everyone builds a shortcake on their own plate.

Lunch is light because dessert is the reason to come. Gifts stack near the window, the cards go in a basket, and the parents open them after the plates are cleared. Nobody rushes. People sit at the table with a second cup of coffee until the afternoon runs out, and someone leaves with the last of the berries in a jar.

What to actually tell people

  • Macerate the berries early Slice and sugar the strawberries at least an hour before guests arrive so the syrup has time to come out. Keep them covered at room temperature, not in the fridge, or they go dull.
  • Buy more berries than feels sensible Plan on a full pint for every two guests, and hulling takes longer than anyone expects. Ask one friend to come thirty minutes early with a paring knife and a colander.
  • Let the shortcake be assembled at the table Split the biscuits and set them out on a platter with the berries and a bowl of whipped cream kept over ice. Guests build their own, which means no plating under pressure at noon.
  • Keep the red on the table Gingham napkins, a white eyelet runner and strawberries in a glass bowl are enough. Leave the gift table plain so the ribbon and the wrapping are what people look at.
