A just because invitation for the afternoon where nobody changes. Guests arrive in the sweatpants they have had on since morning, shoes off inside the door, hair going up in the hallway mirror within ten minutes. There is one pot on the stove and a stack of mismatched bowls next to it. Nobody eats at the table.

The overhead light stays off. Someone takes the corner of the sofa and keeps it for the rest of the day, and the blanket situation gets negotiated without anyone standing up. It was meant to be an hour. It runs past nine.

What to actually tell people

Change before the first knock Put on your own sweatpants before anyone arrives. A host in jeans makes the first guest the only person who took the dress code at its word.
Cook something that sits on a lap Chili, a baked pasta, a soup with bread. Nobody is at a table and nobody wants to cut anything, so bowls and spoons only.
Socks and blankets, in supply Shoes come off at the door whether you ask or not. Keep clean spare socks and two extra blankets out, so the corner of the sofa is not the only comfortable seat in the room.
Clips by the mirror Hair goes up almost immediately. Leave a few claw clips and hair ties where people can reach them without having to ask you where anything is.
