A graduation invitation like this one calls people to a seated dinner rather than an open house. The room is reserved, the places are set, and the graduate sits where everyone can see her. The diploma folder gets laid on the linen near the water glasses, the tassel beside it, and the flowers someone carried out of the arena end up in a vase the restaurant finds.

Guests arrive from the ceremony in what they wore to it, or they change first and come dressed for an evening out. Courses come in order. Toasts happen between them: a parent, a roommate, the graduate herself, kept short enough that the food stays warm. At the end nobody reaches for a wallet, because that was decided weeks ago.

What to actually tell people

Reserve a room, not a long table Toasts do not carry across a busy dining room. Ask for a private room or a corner with a door, and confirm the room, not just the party size, when you call back.
Tell guests it is a sit-down dinner People plan their evening differently for a dinner than for a drop-in party. Say the start time, say that everyone is seated at once, and say whether the cap and gown are coming for photos before the first course.
Print a menu with her name and degree at the top One line is enough: the name, the degree, the school, the date. Guests keep them, and the graduate usually ends up with one in a box of things from that year.
Settle the check in advance If the card says dinner is on you, arrange payment with the restaurant before guests arrive and let the server know. It keeps the end of the night from turning into a discussion.
