Emmy's Rodeo
The buckle is bigger than her hand and she keeps it on through cake.
Part of the TinselLux™ collection: invitations in stitched leather, tufted velvet, linen and satin.
The material is the card: linen with a visible weave, velvet with a nap, leather with its grain. It costs the same as every other invitation.
See the collectionThis birthday invitation plans a rodeo for a six-year-old, held on the concrete slab of a park pavilion with open grass just past the steps. Cones go out for the barrel race. The stick horses come out of a bucket, and there is a long discussion about which one is fastest. Cowgirl attire is requested and widely observed: boots over a tulle skirt, a bandana tied in the parking lot, one child in full fringe.
The turn comes at the end, when the engraved buckle is awarded. It is far too big for a six-year-old waist, so it rides on a belt loop through cake, through the piñata and into the car seat. Everyone else leaves with a ribbon, which holds. The boots come off somewhere in the second hour and no parent gets them back on.

What to actually tell people
- Mark the arena before anyone arrives Three cones on the grass and a chalk start line is the entire course. Run it early, youngest first, while the boots are still on.
- Order one real buckle Get the birthday girl's name engraved and award it last, so the afternoon has an ending. Ribbons for every other rider keep the car ride home quiet.
- Find the pavilion outlet first Most park shelters have exactly one, usually on the far post. Bring a long extension cord for the speaker and a cooler of ice for the lemonade dispenser.
- Define cowgirl attire for the parents They will ask, and vaguely worded dress codes produce stiff new boots. Say boots or sneakers, nothing that cannot take grass, and put a bin by the steps for shoes.
