Main Squeeze

Yellow gingham on the tables, lemons in the bowl, and lemonade refilled all afternoon.

Baby shower invitation: Embroidered white cotton card with a yellow gingham border. A wreath of stitched lemons, pearls and yellow gems rings the script MAIN SQUEEZE, with BABY SULLIVAN, the date and venue below.

Part of the TinselLux™ collection: invitations in stitched leather, tufted velvet, linen and satin.

The material is the card: linen with a visible weave, velvet with a nap, leather with its grain. It costs the same as every other invitation.

This baby shower invitation imagines an afternoon in a garden where everything runs on lemons. Tables are set in yellow gingham under the trees, a dispenser of lemonade sits at the end with ice and sliced fruit floating in it, and there are lemon bars cut into squares on a white platter. Guests arrive in yellow and green and find a seat in the shade.

The parents-to-be sit where everyone can see them. Gifts come wrapped in green ribbon and stack on the table beside the cards, and the soft ones get opened last. The lemonade goes around twice, someone cuts more fruit at the kitchen sink, and the afternoon ends with the leftover lemon bars going home in foil.

What to actually tell people

  • Make the lemonade in two batches One sweet, one tart, both poured over plenty of ice. Keep a spare bag of ice in the freezer so the second refill is as cold as the first.
  • Set the tables in the shade A lemon shower belongs outside, and yellow gingham cloths lift in any breeze. Clip them at the corners and put the guest of honor's chair where the sun will not move onto her.
  • Let the fruit do the decorating A bowl of whole lemons, a few sprigs of greenery in jam jars, and green ribbon on the gift stack will carry the whole table. You do not need anything printed.
  • Send everyone home with something lemon Small jars of lemon curd or lemon sugar cookies in paper bags, each with a linen tag tied on. Set them by the door so they are picked up on the way out.
