Margs & Matrimony in Cream Canvas

Twelve glass rims get salted on the counter before anyone sits down.

The material is the card: linen with a visible weave, velvet with a nap, leather with its grain. It costs the same as every other invitation.

A cream canvas bachelorette is a fiesta held mostly in daylight, on a patio, with the banner up before the first guest parks. Pitchers come out of the fridge already made. There is a saucer of kosher salt, a board of cut limes, and a stack of glasses that get rimmed as people arrive. Small cactus pots sit down the middle of the table where flowers usually go.

The bride is in white or cream, everyone else in something bright, and the afternoon moves slowly: tacos at the long table, music from a speaker on the windowsill, people moving their chairs to follow the shade. By evening the paper flags are still swinging, the limes are gone, and someone is sweeping salt off the counter while the last few sit outside talking.

What to actually tell people

  • Batch the margaritas, then set up the salt Juice the limes in the morning and keep two full pitchers cold so nobody is working the blender while guests arrive. Put kosher salt on a flat saucer next to a bowl of lime wedges and let people rim their own glasses.
  • String the papel picado first Run twine between two posts or across the fence and hang the flags before anything else goes out, because every photo that afternoon will have them in it. Tie the ends tight; damp air makes paper flags sag by evening.
  • Tell people what fiesta best means Say it plainly in the text: bright colors and embroidery for guests, white or cream left for the bride. Mention the patio and the afternoon sun so people bring a hat and wear shoes they can stand in on grass or gravel.
  • Feed everyone before the second pitcher Set out warm tortillas, a tray of carnitas or grilled vegetables, bowls of salsa and a cut melon early, not after the drinking starts. Keep chips and guacamole on a side table so there is always something out between rounds.
