Baby shower invitation

Once Upon a Time

Tiaras are set out in a bowl by the door, and the storybooks stack up beside the gifts.

Baby shower invitation: Dusty rose velvet card with thin gold piping, an embroidered gold crown set with pearls at the top, gold script reading Once Upon a Time above BABY GIRL WINSLOW, with the date and venue below.

Part of the TinselLux™ collection: invitations in stitched leather, tufted velvet, linen and satin.

The material is the card: linen with a visible weave, velvet with a nap, leather with its grain. It costs the same as every other invitation.

A fairy tale baby shower invitation like this one sets up an afternoon in dusty rose and gold. The long table is covered in rose velvet or something close to it, ivory candles stand down the middle, and a small gold crown sits near the cake. Guests take a tiara from the bowl at the door as they come in, and the ones who would rather hold theirs set it beside their plate.

Tea goes out at the start, then cake. Guests bring a storybook along with the gift and write a line inside the front cover, so the shelf in the nursery fills before the baby arrives. The mother-to-be opens gifts from a chair at the head of the room, with her sister handing her the next box and someone keeping a list of who gave what. The tiaras tend to stay on until the cake is cut.

What to actually tell people

  • Put the tiaras where people walk in A bowl of tiaras by the door does the work of a greeter. Mix in a few plain gold headbands and hair combs so every guest, including the grandmothers, has something they will actually wear.
  • Ask for a book instead of a card Put one line in the message: bring a storybook and sign the inside of the front cover. You end up with a shelf of books in the nursery and a note in each one, and nobody is throwing out envelopes afterward.
  • Hold the room to rose, gold and ivory A length of rose velvet or cotton down the center of the table, ivory candles and gold flatware will carry the whole look. Skip the pastel paper goods entirely, and the room matches the card without you buying anything themed.
  • Serve the cake simply One tier, rose buttercream, a gold edge, and nothing on top that competes with the crown on the table. Cut it after gifts so the afternoon has a clear end and guests know when they can leave.
