Welcome, Little One
A knitted blanket comes out of its tissue paper and gets passed down the sofa.
Part of the TinselLux™ collection: invitations in stitched leather, tufted velvet, linen and satin.
The material is the card: linen with a visible weave, velvet with a nap, leather with its grain. It costs the same as every other invitation.
See the collectionThis baby shower invitation imagines an afternoon at home, in a living room with the good chairs pulled into a rough circle and a kettle going in the kitchen. The gifts are the soft kind: a cardigan knitted over four months, a blanket in oatmeal wool, a hat that will fit in about a year. They come out of tissue paper one at a time and go around the room before they go back in the bag.
Cake is cut on the coffee table and tea is poured into whatever cups the house has. People stay seated. The grandmother who made the cardigan explains how she did the collar, and the parents-to-be write down who gave what so the thank-you notes make sense later. It ends in the early evening, with a pile of folded wool by the door.

What to actually tell people
- Ask for a care note with the handmade gifts A knitted cardigan washed wrong is gone for good. Tell knitters to pin a small card to the gift with the yarn and the washing instructions on it.
- Make real tea, in pots Two pots, one regular and one decaf, refilled rather than made to order. Set the cups and the milk out on a tray before anyone arrives so you are not in the kitchen during the gifts.
- Set the chairs in a circle, not in rows Everything at this shower gets handed from person to person. Pull the chairs and the sofa into one loop so a blanket can travel the room without anyone standing up.
- Keep a list as the gifts are opened Ask one guest to write down each gift and who brought it while the parents-to-be unwrap. Handmade pieces rarely come with a card, and the names are hard to recover a week later.
