Baby shower invitation

Twinkle, Twinkle

Guests arrive in navy and silver, and the gifts are opened under low lamplight.

Navy velvet card scattered with small silver stars, a beaded silver star at the top and a clear gem border. Silver script reads Twinkle, Twinkle above BABY BOY CARRINGTON, with the date and venue below.

Part of the TinselLux™ collection: invitations in stitched leather, tufted velvet, linen and satin.

The material is the card: linen with a visible weave, velvet with a nap, leather with its grain. It costs the same as every other invitation.

This baby shower invitation imagines a room kept dark on purpose. Navy cloths on the tables, candles inside hurricane glass, a single beaded silver star set out near the cards. Guests come in navy, grey and ivory, and the room reads as one color with small points of light in it. On the table there are star cookies dusted with silver sugar, a dark cake with pale icing, and small boxes wrapped in silver paper stacked by the chair.

Music stays low the whole time, the kind you would actually sing over a crib. Guests write down a lullaby they know on a card, and those cards go home with the parents. The gifts are opened slowly, one lamp pulled close so everyone can see the sleepers and the knitted things. Someone reads the rhyme out loud before the cake is cut, and the room goes quiet for it.

What to actually tell people

  • Ask the venue to leave the overheads off Silver and velvet only work in low light. Bring lamps, candles in glass, or a string of small warm bulbs, and check the room with the main lights down before guests arrive.
  • Put one lamp beside the opening chair A dim room makes for blurry photographs of every sleeper and blanket. One good lamp aimed at the chair keeps the gifts visible without lighting the whole room.
  • Collect the lullabies Set out cards and pens and ask each guest to write a song they sing. The parents get a list for the nursery, and it costs you nothing but the cards.
  • Keep the table to navy, silver and ivory Order the cake in dark icing, dust the cookies with silver sugar, and ask anyone bringing food to skip pastel wrapping. One beaded star on the table is enough decoration.
