Baby shower invitation

So Matcha

Matcha is whisked to a foam at the counter, and the first cup goes to the mother.

Baby shower invitation: Sage green embroidered card with a pearl border: matcha bowl and bamboo whisk, script SO MATCHA, BABY TRAN, a cream stitched tag with the date and time, the venue, a blossom and a macaron.

See the collection

A baby shower invitation set around a matcha bar: a long counter with a stack of bowls, a tin of sifted green powder, a bamboo whisk, and a kettle held just below the boil. Guests take a turn whisking their own, then pour it over cold milk and ice. The bowls come back to the counter with a pale green ring left inside them.

The sweets are the kind that sit well beside tea. Mochi, macarons in blush pink, a shortcake cut into small squares. Cherry blossoms go in a low vase. Gifts stack beside the counter with washi tags tied to the handles, and the room stays quiet enough that everyone can hear the mother open them.

What to actually tell people

  • Water just under the boil Matcha turns bitter in water at a full boil. Keep the kettle around 175 degrees, and set out a small sieve so the powder goes into the bowl without lumps.
  • One whisk per two guests A bamboo whisk needs a minute to soften in warm water before its first bowl, and it takes about thirty seconds of brisk W strokes to foam. Two or three whisks keep the line moving.
  • Something gentler for the guest of honor Matcha carries real caffeine. Have hojicha or genmaicha ready in the same bowls, served the same way, so she is drinking what everyone else is drinking.
  • Sweets that stay on the quiet side Strong sugar flattens the tea. Mochi, a plain shortcake, and macarons work better than frosted cake, and they travel easily to a gift table that has no room for plates.
